Season-end hip surgery at Flemish Center Shawn Monahan

Season-ending surgery will be performed on the buttocks of Calgary Flames forward Shawn Monahan, general manager Brad Trelewing confirmed Saturday.

This is the second time he has undergone surgery for a hip injury after his 2020-21 season was shortened for a procedure on his other buttocks. Flames will keep the 27-year-old in the long-term injured reserve.

Monahan have struggled with 6 goals and 23 points in 65 games this season. The former sixth overall pick from the 2013 NHL draft lost his role as he was placed in the fourth line by head coach Daryl Satter.

“He has struggled with some things and that is unfortunate. The good news here is that he got a lot of time to get this address, Trelewing said of Monahan. “Her other buttocks, her left buttocks, were done last year and it looks great. She’s doing great with it. This is the next challenge for him now. So he’s got plenty of time to address it before next year, but there’s no question. A lot of frustration. “

Treliving added that defender Oliver Killington is out every day and the team has picked up Connor Mackie from AHL’s Stockton Heat.
