MANILA, Philippines – Coming out of the gates, Meralco played with lasting brilliance on Wednesday night and set apart Baranga Geneva, 104-91, to lift the curtain on the 2021 PBA Governors Cup final.

The Bolts have seen several of their stars advance to the competition, with Alin Malksi topping the list with 20 points.

Import Tony Bishop Jr. chipped in 20 points and 12 rebounds, while Cliff Hodge in 17 authentic wins that put Meralco on the right side of history.

According to Fidel Mangonon III, head of statistics, 60 of the 88 clubs that have won the Opener of the Best-of-Seven Championship Series have all won.

Residential ginbera import Justin Brownlee had 27 points, while Christian Standardringer tossed another 20 points. Scotty Thompson’s triple-double 19 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists in an attempt to lose showed how much the defending champions missed high-jumping Japeth Aguilar (outside due to a calf injury).

Meralco has a 21-point lead in the competition and will be shooting to do more of the same when the series resumes at the Mall of Asia Arena in the city on Friday.
