MANILA, Philippines – Enco Valdez provided the spark lithium needed for his first win in four games by defeating Jose Rizal, 82-75, in the NCAA Season 97 men’s basketball on Wednesday at La Salle Greenhills Gym.

The flashy guard picked up 20 points during most of the hurricane transitions that he helped create as the pirates finally illuminated the stand at the expense of the heavy bombers who suffered their fourth defeat in many games.

Jose Rizal started the first quarter with a 24-12 lead. Lyceum tried to come back after the first half.

But Valdez made a comeback, scoring the most in the third quarter blitz to give the Pirates a 53-45 lead. And in the fourth, when Jose Rizal was trying to make a comeback through Jason Cellis, Valdez once went into action with a continuous layup with two minutes left in the 78-63 buffer.
