MANILA, Philippines – Latran picked up their third win in many games after beating Perpetual 68-57 on Sunday in NCAA Season 97 Men’s Basketball at the Greenhills Gym in La Salle.
Starting a slowdown that was a feature of their previous games, the Knights needed a spark from the newly recruited Range Abando who scored his 11 points in the third quarter.
At the same time Altas lost to slot man Mark Omega who suffered a mid-thigh cramp and was never sent back.
The defending champions, who kept their slate clean at 3-0, were able to keep center Geo Ambot on the sidelines even after scoring 20 points in previous games.
Abando ended a quick break then drilled a three-pointer to give the Knights a 46-27 lead in the third when they had been coastal ever since. The former University of Santo Thomas forward finished with 24 points and five rebounds.
Perpetual’s back-court pair Jillo Rejon and Kim Orin couldn’t hit their marks all day as Altas emptied their shallow bench.
