Kentavious Caldwell-Pope scored a season-high 35 points, Kristaps Porzingis added 24 points, nine rebounds and four assists against his former team and the Washington Wizards beat the visiting Dallas Mavericks 135-103 on Friday.
Caldwell-Pope, who shot 6-of-11 from the 3-point range, set the tone for the night when he scored the first five points. Porgings, who traded from Dallas to Washington in February, added eight points in the first 5:27 of the game and the Wizards were in the race.
They never backed down and led with 34 points on their way to a fourth win in their last five games.
Washington fired 17-of-33 blisters from outside the 3-point arc, part of a 54.4 percent shooting effort from the floor.
Rui Hachimura finished the season’s highest match with 21 points from deep 4 to 3. Danny Avdija went 3-for-5 from the arc off the bench to finish with 14 points, and Porzings shot 2-of-4 from the long range.
For the Porings, he scored at least 23 points, marking the fourth game in the last five on Friday. Caldwell-Pope’s outpouring, meanwhile, was his fourth consecutive game with a score of at least 20 points.
The Dallas winning streak ended in three games as it failed to recover from its slow start in the second game in a four-game road swing. Mavericks shot 43.6 percent (28.9 percent from long range) from the floor and had 13 turnovers.
Luca Donsic was responsible for five Mavericks gifts, although he led all scorers with 36 points. He also recorded seven rebounds and six assists.
Jalen Brunson was the only Dallas scorer with 21 points. Spencer Dinwidi – part of the trade that sent Porgings to Washington – finished with eight points, as did teammates Dwight Powell, Reggie Bullock and Dorian Finney-Smith.
Ish Smith scored 12 points and assisted a game-high nine for the Wizards.
