At the age of 17, Quizen chases gold and GM ideals

At the age of 14, International Master Daniel Quizen almost took to the stage at the 2019 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games.

After nearly three years away from that precious exposure, Quizen will now lead the Philippine chess team’s drive to the upcoming Games in Hanoi, Vietnam.

During the Philippine Sports Commission’s online show on Thursday, Quizen said, “I was not familiar with the opening and miscalculated some of the steps.

The 17-year-old Quiz, nominated for the Junior Athlete of the Year at the recent Inquirer Sports Awards, will not only fly to Vietnam to chase the gold medal at the 31st SEA Games, but also his second GM (Grandmaster) role model.

According to GM Jason Gonzalez, executive director of the National Chess Federation of the Philippines, the men’s standard event at the SEA Games also gives Quizen the opportunity to secure a GM standard.

PH female butters are now called ‘Filipinos’

There are no more Maldivian women footballers in the Philippines.

For simplicity and nationalism, the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) has renamed the national women’s team “Philippines” – the new moniker comes at a time when the program is entering a new chapter, including the country’s first appearance. The biggest tournament in sports.

“[Filipinas] Simple and nationalist, “said Jefferson Cheng, national team manager. “Our athletes are Filipinos. They are strong-willed, determined, passionate and driven to represent the country, not just themselves. “

“We believe that Filipino football fans will understand and support this decision.”

“Malditas” may be popular with fans, but there is nothing to complain about the name change. After all, after a historic performance in an Asian qualifier tournament, the team made itself even more popular with its followers, where it qualified for next year’s Women’s World Cup.

Cheng added that all relevant parties have acknowledged that “Maldives” is no longer fit for the country’s World Cup debut.

The Filipinos, who rose to their highest ranking 54 last Friday after finishing their milestone semifinals in the Asian Football Confederation Asian Cup in India, arrived in Australia on Wednesday to join coach Allen Stagsic and his staff for FIFA (International). Atenio, stay tuned to La Salle — but end up in an unbeaten run showdown

Atenio's Dave Ildefenso.

After two years of hibernation, the most fierce existing competition in basketball is finally back on the big-yet-empty-stage.

And it may seem that both defending Atenio and La Salle have gone the same way, scoring unbeaten runs in their first epidemic-era clash at the UAAP men’s basketball tournament at the Mall of Asia (MOA) Arena on Saturday.

But not all undefeated cards are created equal.

Atenio was untouchable this season এবং and in its last 29 UAAP games, indeed এবং and its 78-47 win over Adamson at MOA Arena on Thursday counted only the notion that it was heading for a virtually worry-free fourth championship celebration.

The Blue Eagles lead with at least 20 points in their first three outings and their average winning margin (16.3) is actually weighed down by their strong fight-backs from their first two enemies. They seem to have cleared their finishing kick against the Falcons, and the only problem for Atenio seems to be how to convince people that this season will actually be a problem.

“We move forward in the same way in every game, we respect our opponents and we will play properly as a team,” Atenio Center and Gilas Pilipinas national team standout Angie Coume said on Thursday. “Coming to the next game, it will be the same mentality and we will try to cover up the mistakes as much as possible and learn from it and move on.”

La Salle, on the other hand, had a shaky start to the season but was hit with the same card as his opponent in a 3-0 win-loss after settling a tough challenge in the Far Eastern U, 75-65 in another match on Thursday.

Fans back

Justin Baltazar had 20 points and 11 rebounds when he joined Kurt Lozer in a knee-capping 13-2 run that turned a hairline lead into a 75-63 cushion when he entered the final minute.

And Baltzer, a Gilas Pilipinus standout when Atenio coach Tab Baldwin conducted the program, was keen to do a show on Saturday, the last UAAP play that would be played without fans. The league will admit a limited number of fans to the venue of the game starting April 5.

“I will apply what I have learned [Baldwin and Gilas] In our game, ”said the 6-foot-7 center, which Baldwin has transformed into an extended big / wing in the national team.

“We have to do our best. This is a different story. They are no longer my Glass teammates. This is a school pride fight here at UAAP,” Baltazar added. I will improve. “

Last rate in 2018

How the best of La Salle will stand against an Atenio program that has not been lost since October 2018 will be at the center of Saturday’s rivalry.

But the green archers know that the Eagles can go into higher gear so easily. The Champs did so on Thursday, putting the Falcons down 18-0 in the third period. The team joined hands with Dave Ildefenso and Josh Lazaro in engineering which exploded as Etinho widened the eight-point edge to 54-28 in the third quarter.

Kouame led the Blue Eagles with 13 points in a 6-of-8 shoot and added 10 rebounds, a block, a steal and an assist to keep his team unbeaten in three games.

In a subsequent game on Thursday, the University of the Philippines won their second in three outings after holding 80-70.

At the start of the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Open Conference on Friday, there was a lot of talk about the depth of Crimline’s talent and why the team is an easy favorite.

The Cool Smashers roster is, in fact, tattooed with some of the biggest names in the sport: Alyssa Valdez, Tots Carlos, Gemma Gallange, Jeanette Panaga, Celine Domingo and Zia de Guzman. The court

But there’s nothing like sniffing at Choco Mucho’s lineup.

Bea de Leon, Kat Tolentino, Deanna Wong, Denden Revilla and Ponggay Gaston form a solid enough core. But then the Flying Titans decided to supercharge their squad by adding shiny new additions to Des Cheng, Isa Molde and Aduke to Ogunsania.

Little wonder Valdez called the matchup between the sister squads “exciting” and “entertaining”.

Valdez added, “We’re just hoping to get the best out of it.”

Experience

The edge of the Crimeline, of course, is that the team has a lot of experience in the big moments.

“They’ve won the championship in the past so we really have to move on,” said Talentino, who anchored Choco Mucho’s Courage 25-21, 23-25, 29-31. 25-15, 15-11, win quarterfinals against PLDT on Tuesday.

“We will prepare and treat them like any other team. It’s thrilling to be able to go against the sister team, “said David Cook, chief of The Christian Science Monitor’s Washington bureau.

Tolentino added an encounter at 3pm on the Phielly Flying V Arena.

At about 6 a.m., a hard-charging signal began its semifinal duel against HD Petro Gaz.

“We are optimistic [of our chances]The tournament’s package, Petro Gazz coach Jerry E said of the Angels’ best-of-three fights against HD Spykers. “I know they have a great record this season. They have good rotation and they are playing well. But we are ready to deal with them and see how far we can go. “

Coaches Shake Delos has indulged in performances inspired by Santos Ces Molina, Rachel Ann Daquis, Angel অ Aranetta, top setter Jail Cayuna and top blockers Rhea Menezes and Roselyn Doria and will hopefully be able to hold on to a much bigger game.

“We have a lot more to improve but we’re ready,” said Delos Santos. “It’s a different matter in the semifinals, the pressure will be much higher.”

Magnolia, Meralco will fight for the final against Brownlee

Chris Newsome (left) of Meralco and Calvin Abueva of Magnolia reached the semifinals for the last time.

Chris Newsome (left) of Meralco and Calvin Abueva of Magnolia reached the semifinals for the last time. -PBA image.

No team made like the circus barker on Wednesday night. Come on, everyone. Capture spectacular major events. Limited run only.

The star of the show? Justin Brownlee.

“[T]Take advantage of it whenever you can, ”said the two-time Grand Slam mentor and current Barangay Geneva coach. “Come and see him. He won’t be here forever, but you’ll be able to tell your family, your friends, your cousins. You’ve seen Justin Brownlee play. And it’s going to be a special thing.”

After Brownlee collected 47 points, 10 rebounds, six assists, three steals and three blocks in a 112-93 win over NLEX, words came out of Cone’s mouth that limited the 3-1 semifinal series win and earned a ticket to Jean Kings. Dominance.

“The Justin game is something you look back on and, for me, I remember watching a game, going live and watching the Billy Ray Bates game. As a little kid – and it’s still fresh in my mind – watching and being able to say ‘I was there with Billy Ray Bates,’ “Shank said.

“This time, when you see Justin Brownlee, you’ll be able to say, ‘Hey, I’ve seen Justin Brownlee.’ Just like, I saw Billy Ray Bates, ”he added.

For centuries, Brownlee’s performance meant that Barangay Ginbera would have a shot at defending his crown. And it leaves Chris Newsom, the rogue two-way guard whose Meralco Bolts squad served as Jean Kings’ enemy-and-animal-food in many Governors Cup final showdowns, green with envy.

Becoming restless

“We saw them win before our game. Of course, whenever you see a team booking tickets to a quick final, you get annoyed. You want to be that next team, “he told Inquirer on the same night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum with Magnolia 94-73 Game 4 heels. Now the Bolts will have to team up again if they can ever take a shot at Brownley and Kings.

After all, they are battling the No. 1 seed in the tournament, Magnolia — also the only team to have won the Governors’ Cup crown, as Geneva Maral has begun relegating Meralco to runner-up status in the final tournament.

The two teams face off at 6pm on Friday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, pushing it back against Geneva in the winning championship.

But facing the Kings is not Bolts’ concern at the moment.

“You can’t think too far ahead,” Newsome said. “So we have to stay in the moment.”

And in that moment, the Bolts know exactly what to do.

“[The Hotshots] Demonstrated a lot of aggression that we don’t seem to be showing tonight. We are doing a really good job of restoring this conference and tonight we have dominated the boards. We have to fix these before we get here on Friday, “Meralco coach Norman Black said as he left the venue on Wednesday.

Physical play

“They played with their hearts. Their backs were against the wall. Any team in position would do the same, “Newsome said.” They did show it and we didn’t respond very well to the way they were shown. “Magnolia, meanwhile, matched her Game 4 performance.

“We expect a very physical game like the four of us [games before]Hotshots coach Chito Victoloro said.

The prize for Friday’s winner was a shot from the Kings’ head.

Brownley is on the verge of overtaking Bates on the all-time scoring ladder.

Bates earned 4,523 points – fifth in overall imports. As the situation stands, Brownley needs 158 more to pass the Bates. If the finals go a long way, Brownlee is expected to cement that milestone, add to his growing legend and make him one more basketball spectacle, as Cone says, a must see.

Fact: Iowa should feel confident about Cadin Proctor landing

Rival National Recruitment Director Adam Gorny And National Recruitment Analyst Clint Cosgrove With Eric Lamars And from NittanyNation.com Jason Higgins 1standTenFlorida.com addresses three issues and determines whether they believe each statement is FACT or FICTION.

1. Iowa should still feel confident in landing five-star offensive tackle Cadin Proctor.

Kadin Proctor

Cadin Proctor (Rival.com)

Gorni acceptance: FACT. If Xavier Noankapa had ended up somewhere else, if he hadn’t been a prospect for the state, if Iowa hadn’t created an offensive lineman as well as arguably no program in the country, I could certainly have seen Cadin Proctor leave the state. All national power houses are calling. But all of the above is true and that’s why Proctor is starting to get more serious about things, so the hockey players look their best. There will be teams visiting Alabama. Crimson Tide likes him a lot, it’s hard to say when the coach Nick Soap And his staff prefers someone and an inspection there would be great. But Iowa really needs to take its chances right now.

Cosgrove reception: FACT. You rarely think of leading Iowa for a prospect that is a top target for Alabama, Oregon, Georgia and Notre Dame. However, the situation surrounding the country’s No. 1 OT potential makes this situation a little different. Coming from Proctor Iowa, the Hawkeys consistently showcase NFL offensive line talent and his former teammate Javier Nawankpa, who could also be a good friend, is already in Iowa. I see Proctor’s appointment follows a similar path to that of Nawankpa, who could have gone anywhere in the country, but in the end chose to stay home and play for Ivory.

2. It is still wise for college coaches to have a “no-visit” policy for committed players.

Neo Avery

Neo Avery (Nick Lucero / Rival.com)

Gorni acceptance: Fiction. I understand this is a complex subject and deserves much more detailed discussion and explanation than a paragraph but I am going to the employer in this example. Trainers are paid millions of dollars and go through the recruitment process every year. For a recruiter, often without a great support system or without understanding the internal workings of the recruitment process, they can do it once, which means to see all the schools, to meet all the coaches, to meet all the academic people, a shot for the game day experience. . , Etc. Players are most likely to be denied that opportunity and forced to stay committed to a school. It can take a long time for players to be committed and then both sides finally shake when classes have to be put together. I certainly understand why coaches want a no-visit policy after a promise. I don’t think it serves too much of a possibility.

Acceptance of Lamars: FACT. Putting my personnel department cap here, I realize that every situation is different, but in general something like a “no-visit” policy is no-brainer for me after being committed to a program. There has to be some kind of understanding between prospects and staff that once you are committed, you lock in, okay if you want to look around, we have to look around too. I fully understand if a young person thinks that he has committed too soon and he wants to see other programs. There is no problem with that, but as soon as it happens employees have to protect themselves and hire others to fill those positions. Worse things can happen, you have an “A” chance and he wants to go somewhere else, you stay true to him and don’t hire others for his place. Then one month before National Signing Day Prospect “A” informs you that he will change his promise and you do not have the same option as the program you got a few months ago. Where you could work on a potential “B” on your board for a promise, now you’re working on a potential “E” and a potential “E” usually fires you. Those possibilities are no crime but it’s reality.

*****

3. In the Florida 2023 class, two of the top four cornerbacks, if not three, have a real chance to land.

AJ Harris

AJ Harris (Rival.com)

Gorni acceptance: Fiction. I could buy two – AJ Harris and Tony Mitchell – but I haven’t sold to Cormani McClean yet. Florida is running ahead of Harris after another excellent tour there recently and I would say Texas is at the top with A&M for the Gators and Georgia Mitchell. Florida has a great opportunity to land both of these possibilities from the state of Alabama. But pulling McClean out of Alabama is going to be very difficult and Ohio State is probably in second place. The Gators will be in it because McClean is a local kid but I’d be surprised if that happened.

Receipt of Higgins: FACT. Relationships about recruitment and 52 years old Corey Raymond They have Raymond from New Iberia, La. Not only the assistant head coach / cornerbacks coach and the top CB coach in America but also the top hiring coach in his position. The reason Florida Corman McClain, AJ Harris and Tony Mitchell are the leaders of the club house is simple – coach Corey Raymond.

PBA: A must see, says Shanku Brownley, who is close to importing legends

Barangay Ginebra imports Justin Brownlee with Star Guard LA Tenorio. PBA picture

Manila, Philippines সে he did it again. An exciting, all-around performance for a sympathetic win for Garenbra on Wednesday night. It remains to be seen whether this will lead Jean Kings to another PBA Governors Cup final, but Justin Brownlee’s performance reinforces the fact that he remains an irresistible benchmark against which many importers should measure themselves in this era of the league.

The American forward won 112-93 game 4 NLX with 47 points, 10 rebounds, six assists, three steels and three blocks which sent Jean Kings back to the championship series. But not always the innocent fellow, Brownley was in the mood to hog the spotlight.

“It simply came to our notice then. I know I scored those points but it feels good to win. I’m glad we won and I’m glad I was able to contribute, “he told reporters.

To understand the breadth of Brownley’s achievements about Ginebra, measure it with numbers. He has led the Crowd Darlings to four of their last five PBA titles. Three of these came in the Governors’ Cup — a choreography matching the dynasties of Alaska and Purefood.

Little wonder that the Genebra coach team has compared any Brownlee to one of the legendary names in the PBA.

“Justin is playing something that you look back on and for me, I remember watching a game, going live and watching Billy Ray Bates play. As a little kid – and it’s still fresh in my mind – watching and being able to say ‘I was there with Billy Ray Bates,’ “he said.

“What it is, 30, 40 years later. This time, when you see Justin Brownlee, you’ll be able to say, ‘Hey, I saw Justin Brownlee.’ Just like, I saw Billy Ray Bates, “he continued.

The comparison of the cone was not merely taken from the air. Brownley has moved closer to the Bates, jumping the all-time import scoring ladder. Bates earned 4,523 points – 5th overall in imports. As the situation stands, the Geneva Tess needs 158 more people to transcend the Crispa legend.

“So, take advantage of it whenever you can. Come and see him. He won’t be here forever, but you’ll be able to tell your family, your friends, your cousins. You’ve seen Justin Brownlee play. And it’s going to be something special.” Shanku said.

Brownlee was certainly grateful for how far he had come in Geneva and how integral he had become to the franchise.

But he insisted that it was merely a crop to keep his nose on the grindstone.

“People, it definitely feels good – success – you know,” he told reporters. “But the credit for that success goes to everyone involved. I know it’s not just a player – it’s a group of guys who really come to practice, come to work every day and really work. “

“Just have the mentality to come in and work hard,” he continued. “It’s nice to be able to reap the benefits of what you’ve done.”

Rival Camp Series New Orleans: Possibilities that are now on the radar

Destrehan, La. – One of the most valuable aspects Rival Camp Series Under-the-radar and finding young prospects who have not yet appeared but made a big statement on the field.

Here’s a look at some of those possibilities from Sunday’s camp near New Orleans.

Deshaun Batiste

Deshaun Batiste

Alabama State, ULM, South Alabama, Southeast Louisiana and Tulane Hall are the five offers for Batiste that are wild because New Orleans (La.) Kennedy had outstanding performances against some really skilled offensive tackles on the defensive end Sunday.

At 6-foot-2 and 226 pounds, it’s a lot like shooting a batist from a cannon cannon, he has an endless motor, he plays with a lot of will and aggression and can create a lot of problems if given the chance. Backfield

*****

Lamar Brown

Lamar Brown

Brown was not originally invited to the camp but looked great and performed well Rivals combined series Get her Sunday tickets on Saturday. The 2026 defensive lineman at Baton Rouge (La.) University Lab is more suited to an impressive line group because he used advanced rice and an impressive body makeup to win some reps. He still has a lot to learn and some physical development to look forward to, but for an eighth grader, seeing something so good at a Sunday camp.

*****

Archie Chambers

Archie Chambers

Chambers has a frame of one who can play safety or linebacker and on Sunday he played with the backers and looked great. New Orleans (La.) Warren Easton’s 2023 rankless prospect could run like a rank, athletic, defensive back, cover the body and space. This is someone who should easily have at least a handful of offers right now.

*****

Lennis Finister, Jr.

Lennis Finister, Jr.

Finaster is a 2025 prospect but at Sunday Camp he was one of the best and most consistent cornerbacks, breaking passes regularly, reading the quarterback’s eyes well and then getting up and gaining the confidence to play.

The Meteori (La.) Rummel standout has all the tools to be really special, builds the best-on-the-best group towards the end of camp, and battles some elite receivers along the way. For a 2025 prospect, it was impressive.

*****

Zahri Garner

Zahri Garner

Garner was not on the radar for Sunday’s camp, but New Orleans (LA) came out of the St. Augustine standout and performed incredibly well throughout the day. Looked good on 2023 prospect drills but really got his hands gleaming downwards, came out from the edge with rice inside and out and won the 1-on-1 rip. Garner is another possibility with an endless motor who doesn’t finish until the job is done. There are no offers yet but some schools should take a shot at it.

*****

Daniel Hayes

Daniel Hayes

The Pensacola (Fla.) Pine Forest receiver has seven offers, so he is not completely unknown, but he has not yet been ranked and no Power Five offers have come. He was great at Sunday camp, making a bunch of highlight-reel catches and many other things that didn’t have to happen because he made so much space between him and the cornerback. Hayes is tall, athletic and has great arms.

Arkansas State, FAU, UMass, South Florida, Southern Miss and Tulane are involved but it will not be a surprise if Power Five offers come soon.

*****

Baker Hickman

Baker Hickman

Hickman received his invitation to Sunday camp through a Saturday combine. He didn’t score the fastest 40 runs or the highest vertical but an internal offensive lineman who carries 340 pounds is impressive and he backed it up on Sunday. He used brutal force and power to win delegates and make a name for himself.

Hickman and four-star OL Wilkin Formby are teammates and close friends and although Hickman may not get Alabama and LSU offers, he can certainly play at a higher level and proved it last weekend.

*****

Lester Miller

Lester Miller

Miller was not on the radar when he visited the camp, but he did win an almost defensive back MVP honor and really made a statement. The 2023 prospect has an offer from Akron and if Zipra gets him it would be a huge steal because Miller has such great expectations and instincts and shuts off the receiver all day. He was great at coverage, smooth in practice and should have increased his recruitment soon.

*****

Carl Williams

Carl Williams

He is a 2023 cornerback who went to Baton Rouge (La.) Southern Lab but still has no offers that are surprising to believe because Williams is a prototypical shutdown cornerback who can certainly make an impact at the college level. If the 2024 standout had not had multiple hurdles during the 1-on-1 of Wardel Mac, Williams would probably have won the Defensive Back MVP award, he was so good throughout the camp.

*****

Bralan Omack

Bralan Omack
